Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens series for BBC Two first aired on the BBC in March 2019. Over two episodes, Monty travels to Japan in the spring and autumn to trace the history of Japanese gardens from early boating gardens, through Buddhist temples and Zen gardens, right up to a modern tea house. In episode two Monty then returns to Japan during the fiery blaze of autumn where he explores rooftop gardens and takes lessons in the intricate art of bonsai.

Monty’s French Gardens series for BBC Two first aired in February 2013. In this series, Monty discovered how gardens have been used as a form of expression in France, and how French food and art are reflected in the country’s horticulture.
