Longmeadow - A public garden that will never be open to the public
The Royal Geographical Society, London
In recent years the name Monty Don has been synonymous with the presentation of gardens on television. He became lead presenter of BBC Gardeners’ World in 2003, succeeding Alan Titchmarsh, but it is since 2011 when he returned to the show and began presenting from his own garden, Longmeadow, that he has created his unique niche as a television presenter.
In his lecture Monty will describe how he balances the position of his garden as perhaps the most public garden in Britain with being his own private garden. He will explain how the garden has influenced his own life, not only through how he presents it on BBC Gardeners’ World, but as he nurtures it through the annual cycle of seasons from one year to the next.
